Capture the heart and soul of this fascinating country on the verge of historic change with
Artist Janet O'Neal!
|Host Artist: Janet O'Neal has received critical acclaim in multiple festivals and exhibitions both internationally and throughout the country for her diverse repertoire of techniques and mediums, however she is most famous for her energetic abstract works, and multimedia assemblages. With powerful symbolism and strong influences by Joseph Campbell’s work with mythology, Carl Jung, and female intuition, Janet’s work portrays intense emotion and encourages self-exploration. Her work takes the viewer on a journey into abstract fantasy realms, leading with reflections of the self, and inspiring those to dive within the subconscious and bring to the surface a new way of seeing. Her most current work revolves around photography, traditional digital photographs and mixed media works where photography is the dominant media. Winning many awards such as the prestigious Georgia O'Keefe Museum Inter national Photography competition, The International WPGA Pollux Photography awards, 3rd Biennial of Photography Spain 2014 and most recent 5th Annual Exposure Aware at the Musee du Louvre, Paris. |
Our journey begins in Old Havana where we experience the sites, sounds and rhythms of this colorful, vibrant country through the expert knowledge of our Cuban guides. Enriching and engaging dialog filled with fascinating history and a glimpse into a country and its people on the verge of historic change. There's lushness to the decay, and the pace of the country is slow. It is our intention to continue the slow pace of life in order to capture the essence of place through photographs as we journey through this beautiful and intriguing country.
What to Expect:
"As we travel through this amazing country we will use photography not only to document our travels, but to utilized the "Eye" of the camera to open us to symbols that will then gift us with a deeper understanding of the culture and our own interior life. So the focus will be more on "seeing" with the camera versus a traditional photography workshop. Here the editing is where the magic will happen as we bring our images into the studio and learn a photo transfer process similar to the polaroid transfer method. Our photographs will continue to evolve as we add collage, drawing and paint on the images to very unique, personal one of a kind photo images. By using this mixed media process, we will be able to bring more of the personal and emotional experiences of Cuba into our work. We will push beyond traditional photography with these unique approaches."
